I helped my dad get new dentures a couple of months ago, so this sounds familiar. He's 73 and he also had old dentures that simply stopped working - they kept slipping, especially when eating. Plus, he had constant gum pain. We also looked for Denturists in Chilliwack, BC, and at first we just followed the Google list. Spoiler alert - it wasn't the best route. The first clinic we went to generally worked on the principle: "The sooner the better." They took impressions in 15 minutes, and gave us dentures a week later. The specialist we worked with — John, I think — did a very detailed examination. He immediately noticed that one side of my father's jaw had sagged more than the other, and this needed to be taken into account when making it. He spent about an hour just on the initial examination and explained to us that the process would take at least 3-4 meetings to achieve the correct fit. And indeed, they did everything in stages: measurements, trying on the soft prosthesis, adjustments, and then the final version. I especially liked how they communicated with my father — patiently, without pressure, with respect for his age. Now it's been a little over a month since he's been wearing the new dentures, and there haven't been any complaints: he eats calmly, speaks without hissing, and has even begun to smile more often. Before that, he was generally embarrassed to open his mouth.
