Products and Completed Operations Liability

Airport Liability Insurance must account for the "downstream" effects of services provided by the airport or its direct contractors.

The Products and Completed Operations section covers liabilities arising after a service has been finished or a product has been sold. For example, if the airport’s de-icing fluid is contaminated and causes an engine failure mid-flight, the liability falls under this section.

The technical analysis in this document focuses on "Causation Chains." It examines how forensic investigators determine if an incident was caused by faulty airport equipment (e.g., a malfunctioning refueling hydrant) or pilot error. The policy typically includes "Extended Coverage" for ground fueling operations, where the "Completed Operation" isn't finalized until the aircraft successfully departs the ramp. This document also discusses the "Safety Management Systems" (SMS) that insurers mandate as a condition of coverage, requiring digitized logs of every maintenance action performed on airport-owned equipment.
